A brown cat treaded carefully along the sleek, metal tracks. It was before dawn, a sun-less time usually reserved for the dowsing medicine cats. He had slipped out unnoticed. He had to make good time.
The cat followed the tracks as they began to rise, up into the air. The structure was off completely off the ground, floating on top of strange, thin and leafless trunks. He elegantly jumped down to one of the lower, flat branches, and turned around. One misstep and he would tumble down to his demise, but there was no fear in his face.
Under the tracks, above the gorge, the cat was able to enter a small cavern on the sheer side of the cliff. He slipped inside the pitch-black cave. Neatly tucking his paws under him, he waited.
The sun rose. From a crevice on the eastern wall, the cavern filled with light. Illuminated were the blood-red earthen walls, glistening and dripping with dew, and the scratched-in symbols and lines that covered them. The cat's fur shone in the daylight. He dipped his head over the smooth, sharp spike that raised from the ground.
The cat whispered, "Rain has come to the Drylands."
He paused thoughtfully, listening to some unheard voice.
"Yes, you are right. There will never be enough to drown out your glory."
